look who's here!

how nice of ah-goo (uncle perry) to come and see us again. and after a long work week! we were having such an off day... so tired, nj was acting a bit strange, and i got sick. i couldn't keep anything down and all i could do for a while was lay down. yesterday it was nj, now it's my turn! i wasn't thinking straight the whole day, i don't think i was very good host! that's ok, we have tomorrow too. :)

"we wait for baba and ah-goo"

"baba sit here, mama sit here, ah-goo sit here, i sit here." he designated the seat next to him to be ah-goo's seat. he even grabbed the seat and pulled it right up against his. i said to him, "oh really? that close to him, huh?" his answer for everything: "yeah." he ate some food from lunch, baba and ah-goo had portillo's, and i attempted to eat a little muffin, hoping it wouldn't be a bad decision.

"my tummy hurts"

nj woke up "so hungry" (he says in a whiney voice). so i gave him milk right away. as i made his breakfast, he had already finished his milk. i felt bad it was taking some time, so i offered him grapes. he got a bagel to eat in the car, but a few bites in and he starts whining and crying saying that his stomach hurt. we were almost to our destination when everything came back out. oh, poor baby! good thing we have a cluttered car full of paper towels, napkins, plastic bags, and wipes. and from good advice of another mother, i always keep an extra everything in the car. so we got him cleaned up and changed. new shirt, jacket, and pants... he's good to go again! he still had barf breath, but couldn't do anything about that! after, he fell asleep with a book in his hands. it slid out of his hands, but he still had them in the same position.

"here dotty! eat it!"

poor dotty. she loves toys, but she doesn't get to enjoy it because nj is randomly taking it and then shoving it back in her face. it's really sad and a little funny all at the same time.

"rice kiss-pee"

"i want some."

how do you ask nicely?

"please."

you mean, "can i please have some rice crispy?"

"yeah."

"thank you."

"i like it, it's sweet!"

"i want some milk."

slurp, slurp, slurp...

strawberries!

and grapes! the grapes were a little big for him so i offered to cut them for him. he pulled up a stool to watch. i told him he could as long as he watched nicely without touching anything or bumping me since i had a knife. he said, "don't touch the knife." yes. as i put them into his cup, he says to me: "thank you for putting in my cup!" how sweet, i love when he says things like that. i didn't know that baba had heard from around the corner, he walked in saying, "aww, now how can you not love that?"

"i want to draw."

he asked me to draw him a police car and then another police car. he had a great time coloring over it.

"i want to help." nj kept piling his clothes onto my lap from the laundry basket. that's not helping! i paused before getting frustrated and instead asked him to dig in the basket for his underwear. so he had fun going through trying to find them one by one. he'd say there's no more and i'd shift some clothes around and tell him to look again. i love how he loves to help, i just need to figure out how to let him help.

"i want to play my cars." he didn't eat much at grandma's again, so i fried up an egg with some onion and green peppers and put it with rice. he ate that, thank goodness. he doesn't eat much anymore unless it's something that he really likes. like cereal, snacks, or any asian food. before dinner i asks him if he wanted milk. he said, "with cereal." not with cereal for dinner, just milk. anytime i said the word milk he'd follow it with: "with cereal." who knew he'd love cereal that much! if only there was meat in it, i can always add fruit, but not a very nutritious meal (for dinner at least). well, cleaning up after dinner, i looked in the other room and there's his cars all lined up. typical nj.

"i want more cereal"

we didn't really have anything for breakfast. there weren't even enough eggs or ingredients to make more pancakes. so cereal it was. nj enjoyed it so much more than i thought he would. he ate a bowl of cheerio's, five mini wheats, some blueberry crunch, honey bunches of oats, and granola cereal. yikes, i wasn't sure when he'd stop. i guess he just wanted to sample every box. silly guy. he even drank the remaining milk in his bowl. since he enjoyed his cereal so much, i said to him: "you like cereal that much? you're cheap!" he smiles, ha, ha. it was also the first time he drank his milk from a regular cup like he should be. those straw cups are hard to clean. he drinks everything else out of cups anyway. during breakfast, he randomly says: "there's a man in the tree!" i look around our back yard thinking i'm going to see a man peering over the fence or something. it kinda freaked me out. then i got down to where his view is and saw that there was a tree trimmer in some very tall trees a block or two away. oh! got it, there is a man in a tree!

"i like my hat"

looking through stuff the other night, i found this hat. baba said that someone gave it to me. but sadly, i don't remember who! but looking at it, it had to be for nj not me... so today i tried it on him and it fit great. he really liked it and wanted to keep it on. i couldn't get over how cute he looked in it (i thought so anyway).

i was so tired last night i forgot to write about all the crazy things he said last night during dinner... first, as he was getting into his seat, he got his buckle stuck underneath from sitting on it. i had to yank it out from under and said: "there it is! it was stuck under your bottom, you have a big bottom." he laughed and said, "i have a big bottom and mama has a big bottom." what?! it's funny how he repeats things. i responded with: "you never say that to girls or women!" as i made his dinner, he said: "i want to see mama's belly button." he didn't need to see it... he continued with: "i have outie, mama have innie, baba have innie too." i put away dishes as he ate and he said to me: "mama this one look pretty (pointing to my shirt) and this one look pretty too (pointing to my pants). i don't know what's more sad about it... that i only get compliments in sweats or that i'm always wearing them! well, he enjoyed his food so much that he was stuffing his mouth way too much. i heard him cough and when i looked at him he says: "i choke a little bit." ok, well as long as you're ok! he really likes his veggies. he told me, "i like the mushroom. and i want more veggies." i love that he actually likes his vegetables.

i took this to show the yard sale sign, which didn't even show up because of the sunlight. but i like the way it turned out anyway, it was a cute little place. at this particular one, we ran into an old acquaintance. she had a tiny shop on las tunas, where i had some of my handmade stuff on consignment. didn't do very well at all, but it was fun while it lasted. she was talking about some upcoming shows and invited me to join. ha! sell my old stuff that's been in dusty boxes? baba's been so sweet and encouraging, telling me to keep pairing and be creative again. maybe this is the motivation i need. we'll see. hopefully sometime next year i can launch something on etsy or ebay.

hope surprise

we got the surprise of a visit from an old friend, uncle jim... who played a bit of peek-a-boo with nj, cute. i also got the surprise of a concerned looks and questions about how my biopsy went. how heartwarming that so many would ask and be so concerned.

where's ah-ma and gong-gong?

try the chopsticks...

you did it, yay!!!

mmm... soup.

thank you for lunch, ah-ma and gong-gong!

"we see ah-ma, gong-gong, and cocoa"

we had a gift exchange of sorts. we found something cute and sweet for ah-ma (grandma) for her kitchen since she loves to cook. and we got lots of great gifts from their recent travels. it's always nice when they think of us, especially little nj.

he loves cocoa! cocoa actually lets nj pet him. he really likes to give him treats at the door. we let him do it once, but he asked about another twenty times before we left.

halloween kai-lan

it was a long day and he had way too much energy for me tonight! what does that mean? ugh, i turned the tv on for him. he almost never gets to watch anything, but tonight he watch kai-lan and friends go trick-or-treating for halloween. we found him a costume today at a yard sale for $1 (woohoo!). when i showed him, i asked him if he remembered being tattoo (of fantasy island) last year and going around to houses with cameron guh-guh. i refreshed his memory by telling him that we go house to house and he has to say, "trick or treat" and he gets candy. after all that i said, his only response was: "i want candy." great! how does he even know to ask for candy or know what it is? we've never given him candy! hmmm...
