"Where's the food?"

Restless and cranky, NJ cheered up so quickly once he got food. We have Auntie Nicole to thank for introducing a great Taiwanese breakfast spot. Yum!

"Ooh, I'm so strong!"

He was Baba's helper today, throwing away trash as Baba went through papers and mail. There were a few piles and he had to keep pushing the paper to stay down in the trash. He did a pretty good job and had fun at the same time.

"I want yogurt. I want juice."

Just one or the other, not both! I let him choose between frozen yogurt and a smoothie, they are right across from each other. We shared some Jamba Juice and walked around Target.

"I want food here and here and here and here..."

Pointing at each section of his plate. If there's a section empty he says, "Why there's no food here?" I try to fill it, but not always. It's kind of a good reminder for me to give him variety anyway. During dinner, he turned around to see what I've changed behind him. He pointed at the photos and said, "That's me, that's me, that's me, that's me, and that's me and that's me..."

"I want cereal. No milk, just cereal."

Even without the milk, he still asks for and eats it with a spoon. Strange.

"Why the neighbor not getting the mail?"

We took a short walk up the street to drop a get well card for our neighbor. She teaches NJ's class and hasn't been there because she's been sick. I hope she's doing better.

"Is Auntie Becky coming back?"

"The bird fly home to get better?"

NJ pointed out the window and looked scared and concerned. I was worried about what I'd see when I looked out. He said, "Look Mama, I think there's a bird there or something." Laying right outside was a little green hummingbird. I see at least two or three everyday in our backyard. Poor thing was breathing hard, but otherwise totally still. I told him that the hummingbird is hurt and is stopping to rest. He said, "He's hurt? He's going to rest and feel better?" I was hoping the poor bird would be ok and not end up staying there once it got dark because who knows what might happen to it. Finally after a while the bird mustered up enough strength to fly away, barely. I told NJ he flew home so his mommy could take care of him and he can heal better at home. NJ with a whiney voice said, "I'm sad. The bird will get better at home? His mommy will take care of him?" I thought it was so sweet that he would be that concerned over the little hummingbird.

"May I be excused?"

I love hearing him say it, it's so cute and polite. I've also been asking him to bring his plate and cup to the sink.

"Ok food, I'll be back"

He was already sitting and waiting for breakfast, but when I gave him his food I asked him to go wash his hands. As he climbs down from his seat he says, "Ok food, I'll be back." Silly, never heard him talk to his food before.

"I pooped. Now you(r) turn!"

First thing he said to Baba this morning right after saying good morning. Why he was wearing this preppy V-neck sweater without anything under is beyond me. He only had the top two buttons done, so it was even weirder. He kept flashing his belly proudly to me.

"Bye, love you!"

"It's Trader Joe's, I think!" We went out to get some groceries, as we're getting closer he must have recognized the way.

"I like the green cereal." He was excited when we picked it up, he eats so much of it. He wanted to hold on to it even as we needed to pay. This guy really turned up the charm in the store... A nice older lady smiled at him all through the store and complimented us on him. They waved at each other and she told Baba that he was a good boy and that he was raised right, she could tell. How nice! At check out, he got some stickers and as we left he spoke up louder and said, "Bye, love you!" The checker thought it was the sweetest thing. He's never said that to a stranger before, only to us or a favorite person or two. I hope it doesn't become too much of a habit (saying it to strangers I mean)!

"we're going to see my friends?"

"I like to drive this car."

NJ and I had a play date that we both really enjoyed. I got to sit and relax and talk while NJ and the kids played and played together. An afternoon visit turned into us staying for dinner. It was so nice of them to invite us to stay, I'm happy we did. NJ had so much fun, he didn't want to leave. When I asked him to put his shoes on, he said he wasn't done putting cars away. Uh-huh, sure. That got a laugh out of the aunties. As we were leaving, he whined about not wanting to go. "But I don't want to go. I want to stay here." He repeated this all the way home. I kept telling him we can go back to visit another time. I'm glad he had such a great time and got along well with the kids. :)

"Come on!"

As we drove to class, I went a different longer way and made a couple of wrong turns. NJ knows the way exactly though and complained and whined about it. "Why we not going to class? Go that way! No, not this way, you have to turn around! Where you going? Mama, I want to go to class..." and finally, "Come on!" Ha, that's a first. Excuse me for losing my way that you can't wait an extra minute or turn or two! He really loves going to his class!
