Book Signing & Chair Painting

Really trying to use up all the tortillas we have! Too many. NJ wanted eggs for breakfast. He likes his plain scrambled. I made mine into a egg, cheese, salsa mini burrito. Baba's too, but sunny side up.
We went to the local library to an event with a children's book author. She read from two of her books. There was a craft to make a penguin, a scavenger hunt, a book signing, cake, a raffle, and gave out book marks.
There was no place to sit, but we squeezed in the front and sat on the floor. NJ made himself comfortable.
She drew one of her characters.
So cute.
We got a personalized signature, yay!
NJ also signed his name on the dog for the author.
NJ's first and very own library card! It's in his name, so he's responsible. We had one at our old local library before moving, but he was so young, it was my card. We'll have to make it a weekly trip to come and pick out books. We hope to keep his interest and love of books for the long run.
Baba got a card too! I didn't realize until taking this photo that they were both in gray tees and plaid shorts. They both got dressed separately, but you'd think they planned it.
We were all so hungry we picked up a couple sandwiches on the way home.
He wanted to show us his mini figure he put together. But I thought he was handsome with his clean new haircut! Much cooler since it's been in the 90's the last couple days.
We picked out some metal spray paint for our chairs on the porch. Now they won't blend in anymore. Baba did a great job painting, he's got the technique down.
I only sprayed some of the legs. It was fun, but so stinky. I'm also not as steady.
NJ wanted to try. The button was too hard to push so Baba helped him. He did a little part of the back. But even with his nose and mouth covered, we didn't want him to do much more than a couple sprays. He did a great job helping though.
Back to riding his bike. It's hot, I'm sweating just standing around and he's riding in the sun.
Baba finished up painting the chairs. We all love the way the color turned out! I asked Baba if he thought it was too girly. (I chose the color, can you tell?)
NJ pointed and laughed because our driveway is a bit blue. He said it looks like a cake. That's how he draws cakes, a smaller square on a bigger square. Oh well. At least we had the garage closed so everything in there didn't also become blue. Can't wait to paint that cabinet now. That one requires primer and is a lot more surface area so it will take a lot more time. Plus Baba needs to put casters on it too. I miss doing projects together, so fun! It feels great to be getting stuff done too.

Pajama Friday

Lego Star Wars pajama's were his choice. The Spiderman ones are a bit snug to be wearing to school. He might be showing his belly and ankles with those. But I know those were his top choices. The three of us walked to school together. In the morning Baba asked him, "Why haven't you changed out of your pajama's yet?"
"It's pajama day, silly Baba!"
I laughed because I almost said the same thing first thing in the morning until I realized that wasn't what he wore to bed and it was pj day. It's unusual since he's always dressed by the time we see him in the morning. We stuck around his class to take a photo of all the kids. We did a double, triple, well many takes every time another student showed up after the bell. By then the kids were trained with where to stand, hold still, smile, and say, "pajama day!!!" I'm sure we totally held up his teacher with taking up so much time taking the photos over and over again. But they turned out well.

We drove to pick him up since we were in a hurry. They all painted rainbows and they were still wet! His had wet paint on both sides so I had to hold it awkwardly all the way home (thank goodness it's only a block away)! Baba laughed at me having to hold it up. I told him, "Don't mind me, I don't want to show my face, all I want to do is gaze into this rainbow."

NJ made a card for our neighbors who were so sweet to take us to dinner. We thought we were meeting for dinner, but they wanted to take us to dinner! It was really nice to sit, talk, and share a meal. We live next to each other and see each other, but we don't actually get to talk to them much. We really missed being their neighbors! NJ drew us eating dinner at the table. It looks like Baba and I (on the left) have either fallen asleep or have our face in the food. While our neighbors (on the right) are sitting up like normal people. One of them is a nurse so she brought him a whole envelope full of nice, big superhero stickers from work. He was so excited and loved them! So thoughtful.

He saw me sitting and wanted to sit with me to take a break from his scooter and bike. He looks so big here. He asked to share the seat with me, but there wasn't much room so I asked him to do jumping jacks. He nearly fell backwards off the porch. I forgot that he's all over the place with his jumping jacks, he doesn't jump in place. And his timing is always off with the jump and the clap. It's silly and funny, he makes me laugh.

Baba made some quesadillas and the boys also wanted salami. NJ said he was making a mini salami taco. Oh my, he really is just like Baba.

NJ wanted to sit with me. I wanted to put my feet up, trapping him. He was trying to wiggle out as I tickled him. He called me Jabba because my legs were too heavy for him. Thanks! I told him that must make him Princess Leia. He didn't like that either!
I asked him if he knew who everyone was on his Star Wars shirt. He confidently said yes, and answered them all correctly except for one. "Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Han Solo, Obi-Wan, Luke, and Chabooey."
"Chabooey?!!"
Baba and I laughed till we cried. That was too funny. We made jokes the rest of the night with that one. Finally Baba told him to get a paper and pad to write down the spelling.
"Oh yeah, Chewbacca!"
The three of us went back and forth making up names and words in a similar way. I said to NJ, "That means your name is Natooey and I am Amooey!"
He went on to make up his own... Mamooey, Babooey, Dotooey, Agooey, hapooey, lalooey, kachooey...
Definitely a day full of laughs.

Twins Thursday

This morning he's reading his Magic School Bus book about the human body. I had to ask him to please eat before reading.
It's twin day! Well, for now it's triplet. There's supposed to be a fourth one. They all have grey sneakers too, how funny. that wasn't planned.
NJ and his school buddies all looking cool in their sunglasses.
It's the quadruplets or foursome. I like to say the awesome foursome. Hehe. Very cute.
Had to pick up some meds at the drug store. We were finding some pretty great clearance items for under a dollar. This wasn't one of them, but I had to take a picture because of the exploding brain coming out of the head. The ball is barely hanging on, poor bear.

Wacky Hair Wednesday

It's crazy hair day. He never likes having gel in his hair.
We got some superhero band aids yesterday. NJ saw them and said, "Superhero band-aids?! Can I bring them to school? Our class needs them, the teacher just said we need more band-aids. Please?"
How can I say no? Of course! I love that he was thinking of other's needs.
I love the way the book shelf looks in use! Baba helped dig out the two big bins of books that are NJ's. I also found his little lunch boxes which are useful and good decoration.
So many books, enough to fill up a lot of his existing bookshelf. I also sorted through some of them to donate to the school's used book fair. And all his thin books are in his play area. He'll be so surprised when he comes home from school. I think he'll be spending more time in his room now.
We picked up this old military chest/locker a while ago. Baba put casters on it and cleaned it out so we can use it in the house. There's also some boxes that fit perfectly inside.
Baba is also working on our filing cabinet. Hopefully we can find a replacement wheel and also put casters on it.
The last sentence of his homework was my favorite.
Going through more stuff I found a painting I did in community college. Not sure I like it or what I was thinking.
He's one happy guy having his cars back. They were at the bottom of a big box of stuff.
It's like a flashback of when he was three and four, lining up his cars, pushing the big trucks around, making car noises around the house.
He wanted to ride his bike outside. Shortly after he went out it started drizzling.
He got his sweater, put the hood on and kept riding.
Tacos were popular so we had them again for dinner. NJ liked putting his own together.
He used to be so little pushing his big trucks around, not he's so big!
Mmm, some fondue for dessert. What a treat!
He's already discovering the books in his room. This is his favorite so far. He really likes Dr. Seuss books.

Teacher Tuesday

Dress like a teacher day! I took the jacket from him before his class started. I didn't plan to, but it was pretty warm already and I didn't want the blazer to be smashed into his back pack or ruined on the playground. He still had his button down and corduroys on.
There are pieces of this chew toy all over the floor. I think Dot's done with it.
Part of his homework was to give examples of how he helps out at home. I hope his teacher doesn't think we're slave drivers. I tried to sway him to write things that seemed simpler. But he does do a lot to help all the time.
He's been getting cereal and pouring his own milk in the mornings. By the time I come down the stairs he's usually already had breakfast. I noticed that the cereal he had been eating was empty so I asked him what he ate. He said, "I had the other cereal. The healthy one."
What healthy one?
"The one with granola and raisins in it. You know, Eating Right for Healthy Living."
Not only is he feeding himself breakfast in the morning (because Mama's too slow), but he's reading everything. Sometimes I forget that he reads anything and everything until he tells me what something says and it surprises me. He reads packages, labels, signs, billboards, mail, my texts... Even though he's been reading for about a year, he's gotten so fast and so good at reading almost everything. I'm not used to it.
We made some tacos for dinner. He had about three and still wanted to eat some corn by itself before being done. Silly.
