We had the choice of a Japanese or Western breakfast. Lisa and I went down for breakfast together and had Japanese together. I was nervous about what my choices might be and what I'd be able to eat. My very first meal in Japan. I got a little of everything except for the fish. I loved all of it! Yum. That put me at ease already, I feel like I can actually do this! Sounds crazy, but the last time I traveled overseas nothing agreed with my stomach and I was not myself the entire time. So this is a good sign for me. I felt like it was God putting my nerves at ease.
Could't start the day without coffee. There's no size reference, but the cup, sugar, and creamer looked mini sized. It was so cute.
We met in the lobby at 7:30 to head to the bus. But first we had to navigate the substation at commuter rush hour. Joseph led the eight of us through three stations, Kamata, Shinagawa, and Tokyo station. There were tons of people, lots of stairs to go up and down, not enough escalators, all while dragging our luggage with us. I had a small bag, plus my heavy backpack, plus my suitcase. I was huffing and puffing and sweating like crazy. I had to make sure I had everything with me, worry about making it with my suitcase while trying to keep up.
Our first sub ride together. It was so quiet that I'm pretty sure we were the loudest on there even when whispering. It was hard not to bust out laughing when Airin almost rest her arm on a sleeping man's head.
It's hard to see, but there's a grasshopper. Joseph said he's never seen a grasshopper on the commuter train before so he took this photo.
We made it through! Whew, we have all eight of us and all our stuff with us.
I saw this poster ad in the station and I thought of NJ. Looks like a place he'd love to go to.
